Ukraine intends to sign the Association Agreement with the EU as soon as possible, including creation of enhanced and all-round free trade area.

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has said in an interview to the Cyprian newspaper Phileleftheros.

“At the current stage, the main task of our relations with the European Union is conclusion of the Association Agreement, including creation of enhanced and all-round free trade area. Our state intends to sign this Agreement as soon as possible,” the Head of state noted.

According to him, the European integration is a foreign political priority of Ukraine and the key guideline of its internal development.

According to the Head of state, currently, the European Union passes through a difficult stage of its development, caused by the financial-economic crisis.

“At the same time, this period is a test for sustainability and effectiveness of the Union. Efforts of the EU leaders and member states demonstrate that the fundamental principles of solidarity, economic and social unity continue operating,” he noted.

Answering a question about perspectives of Ukraine's cooperation with the Eurasian Union, the President noted that in this issue the authority proceeds from economic interests of our state.

“We are interested in cooperation with all integration unions, which will facilitate development of our country's economy,” Viktor Yanukovych said.

According to him, today, it is early to appraise activities of the Eurasian Union and to compare it with the EU.

“This union is at the initial stage of formation, but dynamics of its development causes an interest,” the Head of state added.
