Small and medium-size farming enterprises may organize into cooperatives, competitive to agroholdings.

UkrAgroConsult Director for strategic development Bohdan Khomiak told the Fifth International Conference "Agrarian Investments - MTR 2012," the UKRINFORM correspondent reports.

"The character of investments in the agrarian sector has considerably changed over a recent year. The number of primary placements on stock exchanges and placement of corporate bonds (IPO) reduced. At the same time, mergers and uptakes have sharply grown in agriculture. Profitability of large producers in Ukraine is so high (USD 50 million - USD 100 million - Ed.) that they grow organically, using their profits as the funding basis," the expert noted.

Over recent three years, according to him, agroholdings boosted the volume of controlled land bank from 8% tо 11% in Ukraine, raised capacities for storage of grain crops by 1 million tons, as well as invested in production of poultry, construction of animal feed mills and other components of the production chain.

To remind, in a conference, held in Kyiv, there were over 120 participants from 10 world countries, who are representatives of investment companies and banks, farmers and other agricultural producers.
