NBU: Import of capital goods, agroindustrial products and automobiles up in Q2, 2012

2012-10-29 16:03:03

Growing imports of capital goods, agroindustrial products and automobiles was noted in Q2 this year.

As UKRINFORM reports referring to the NBU quarterly, in Q2, 2012, growth of commodity imports increased, which made up USD 23.1 billion, and annual growth rates increased to 12.1% (in Q1 - 4.6%) and against Q1, import grew by 6.8% (in Q1 - by 2.6%) with taking into consideration the seasonal fluctuation.

“By wide economic categories, a trend toward capital goods import growth continued (by 39.2% in annual terms). In particular, import of machine building products rose by 34.9% tо USD 6.2 billion. At the same time, growth of consumer goods import substantially enhanced (annual rates made up 31.4% against 7.7% in Q1). Import of agroindustrial products grew by 25.6% (tо USD 1.9 billion) due to substitution of some categories of products (for instance, meat) with imported analogues. Import of cars made up USD 953 million, having increased by 36.4% against Q1, 2011,” the NBU publication reads.

Intermediate consumption goods import has not almost changed already for the second quarter in succession against the previous year. Such a situation was predetermined by reduction of energy imports (by 8.6% to USD 6.2 billion) as a result of reduction in customer-owned oil supply for further refining. The value of imported natural gas has not almost changed - reduction by one third in physical volumes of gas supplies was fully compensated by growth of prices by 44.5%.

In Q2, 2012, positive balance of trade in services reduced to USD 1.4 billion (from USD 1.5 billion in Q2, 2011) due to growth of Ukrainian residents' expenses for trips.

Negative balance on Item “Incomes” in Q2, 2012, reduced to USD 396 million (from USD 1.2 billion in Q2, 2011). This took place primarily as a result of considerable incomes from investments abroad.
