Kazakhstan ranked 49th in Doing Business 2013, Kyrgyzstan – 70th, Tajikistan – 141st, Uzbekistan - 154th

Kazakhstan is ranked 49th in the World Bank's Doing Business 2013, Kyrgyzstan holds 70th position, Tajikistan – 141st, Uzbekistan – 154th, the World Bank announced today.

Doing Business 2013: Smarter Regulations for Small and Medium-Size Enterprises assesses regulations affecting domestic firms in 185 economies and ranks the economies in 10 areas of business regulation, such as starting a business, resolving insolvency and trading across borders. This year’s report data cover regulations measured from June 2011 through May 2012. The report marks the 10th edition of the Doing Business series.

Singapore topped the global ranking on the ease of doing business for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Hong Kong SAR, China; New Zealand; the United States; and Denmark. Georgia was a new entrant to the top 10.

Poland was the global top improver in the past year. Nine other economies are recognized as having the most improved ease of doing business across several areas of regulation as measured by the report: Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Burundi, Costa Rica, Mongolia, Greece, Serbia, and Kazakhstan.

Georgia takes a lead among former Soviet Union countries with its 9th position. It is followed by Estonia (21st), Latvia (25th), Lithuania (27th), Armenia (32nd), Kazakhstan (49th). Belarus (58th), Azerbaijan (67th), Kyrgyzstan (70th), Moldova (83rd).

Russia is 112nd and is followed by Ukraine (137th), Tajikistan (141st), Uzbekistan (154th).

Kazakhstan is 2 positions down compared to 2011, Kyrgyztsan is 16 positions down. Kyrgyzstan was ranked 44th in 2011 having outstripped Kazakhstan, who was on the 47th position.
