Ukraine has not taken any measures to restrict grain export

2012-10-16 15:00:30

The Government of Ukraine is not taking any measures to restrict grain export, said the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.

"As of today, no measures to restrict export of grains have been called for by the government" - Prysiazhniuk said at a briefing on Tuesday. According to him, this year Ukraine has already exported more than 6.5 million tons of grain. October exports will exceed 2 million tons. Prysiazhniuk said that while the issue of food security is a "question number one", the government monitors the situation and hold joint meetings every 10 days with grain traders to study the balance of export.

According to the minister, the government encourages the export of feed grain. As for food grains, their final numbers will depend on the situation with winter grains. Prysiazhniuk said that they are now in good and satisfactory condition. Their area has been increased by 100 thousand hectares, compared to 2011.

The Minister has also said that Ukraine will be able to export 5 million tons of wheat this year.
