Ukraine. Agriculture and food ministry forecasts meat production growth at 2-3%

The Agriculture and Food Ministry expects that this year Ukraine will produce 2.1-2.12 million tons of meat (in live weight), which is 2-3% up against 2010, Ministry CEO Volodymyr Pishcholka said. At the same time, according to the ministry forecasts, meat import in 2011 will make up 270-275,000 tons, while in 2010, according to preliminary data, this index reached 370,000 tons. As the Agriculture and Food Ministry notes, reduction of imports will be compensated at the expense of internal production, mainly of pork and poultry meat. At the same time, the ministry considers it necessary to raise control over quality of meat, which is imported to the country.
