Russia's grain harvest is down some 23% this year because of drought

Russia had harvested 67.5 mmt of grain up to Oct. 2. compared with 87.6 mmt on the same date last year, the agriculture ministry reported.
The grain was harvested on 36.4 Mln ha, or 92.5% of the total area to be harvested. The average yield to date was 1.85 t/ha, compared with 2.31 t/ha t/ha a year ago.
The agriculture ministry expects this year's grain harvest at 72-73 mmt and grain export in the 2012-2013 marketing year, which began in July, at 10-14 mmt. In 2011
