UK Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday said the deficit reduction plan is not an alternative to a growth plan and the economic recovery is taking longer than expected.

In his keynote address at the Conservative party conference, Cameron said the weaker-than expected activity in Eurozone is hurting U.K. trade, and in turn making it harder to pay off debts.

"Yes it's taking longer, but we are making progress," he added.

He claimed that over one million new jobs have been created in the private sector since this government took office.

The Olympics and the Paralympics showed that the U.K. can do great things. The old powers of the world are on the slide. Cameron said he will ensure that Britain is on the rise.
