Greece said on Monday it would support the European Commission’s proposal for a harmonized tax on financial transactions (FTT) in the EU.
“Our government wishes to proceed further on this issue and, as a result, support the harmonized application of the Financial Transactions Tax,” Finance Minister Giannis Stournaras said in a letter to Taxation and Customs Commissioner Algirdas Semeta.
He noted, however, that the proposal did not enjoy the support of all member-states and, therefore, “tax avoidance, distortion and transfer to other countries should be avoided”.
