Greece's annual inflation slowed in September to the lowest level since the country's economic crisis began three years ago, data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Tuesday.

Inflation weakened to 0.9 percent in September from 1.7 percent in August. The latest figure was the lowest since September 2009, when the consumer price index increased 0.7 percent.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices gained 1.6 percent annually in September, while clothing and footwear prices moved up 1.4 percent. Housing costs were higher by 5.7 percent compared to last year, and transportation costs by 3.3 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced 2.5 percent in September, reversing the previous month's 1 percent gain.

At the same time, the country's EU harmonized inflation slowed markedly to 0.3 percent in September from 1.2 percent in August. Month-on-month, the harmonized index of consumer prices rose 2.5 percent, the agency said.
