Finland's exports rise 5% in August

Finland's merchandise exports increased from last year in August, data released by the customs office showed Monday.
Total exports increased 5 percent year-on-year to EUR4.92 billion in August. Shipments to countries outside Europe climbed 13 percent, while shipments to European Union states dropped 1 percent. There was a 6 percent fall in exports to countries in the Eurozone.
The value of imports, meanwhile, decreased by 3 percent annually to EUR4.92 billion. Arrivals from EU nations and non-EU states decreased 5 percent and 1 percent respectively during the month. Imports from the Eurozone also fell by 5 percent, data showed.
Overall trade in September was balanced, compared to a surplus of EUR10 million in July and a deficit of EUR383 million in September 2011.
In the January-August period, exports advanced 1 percent from the same period a year earlier, while imports decreased by 1 percent, data showed.
