2012-09-12 10:39:00

Grain exports from Ukraine since the beginning of the current marketing year (July 2012 - June 2013) as of September 10 totaled 3.913 million tons, which is 61% more than in the like period of 2011/12 MY, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food reported.

"During the said period, exports of wheat increased by 57% up to 1.764 million tons, including 1.259 million tons of food and 0.505 million tons of fodder wheat. Barley deliveries to foreign markets declined by 28% to 0.892 million tons. Corn exports increased by 21 times up to 1.208 million tons," the ministry informed.

According to the ministry, grain exports in September stood at 0.924 million tons, including 0.463 million tons of wheat, 0.341 million tons of barley and 0.108 million tons of corn.

In addition, the supply of oilseeds to foreign markets from the beginning of the current MY increased by 47% to 0.41 million tons, including exports of rape by 20% up to 0.297 million tons and soy by 3.5 times to 112.9 thousand tons.

As reported, on September 4, 2012, representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine and grain market approved grain exports for 2012/13 MY with the government's guarantee not to limit the volume.

Thus, about 19.4 million tons of grain will be delivered to foreign markets, after which restrictions may be imposed on exports.

It is envisaged that the balance of cereals supply and demand for them in 2012/13 MY will be reviewed on a monthly basis and approved by the interdepartmental working group for the development of the balance of demand for some foods and their supply.

According to the company ProAgro, until the end of 2012/13 MY, Ukraine may export maximum 2.24 million tons of wheat and 2.11 million tons of barley more. This amount can be sold in 2-3 months. And then, in January 2012 or even earlier, export restrictions on the grain market are quite probable.

Wheat may fall under government regulation first, and according to the logic of the memorandum signed with grain traders and the pace of wheat exports, the introduction of restrictions on its exports could be announced within a month, experts predict.
