Belarus-Moldova trade up 20% in January-July

In January-July 2012 trade between Belarus and Moldova amounted to $192.3 million, up 19.6% from the same period of 2011, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian Embassy in Moldova.

In the seven months the Belarusian export to Moldova totaled $148.4 million, up 23.2% as against the same period a year earlier. Deliveries of Moldovan goods to Belarus during the same period rose by 9.1% to $43.9 million.

In January-July this year Blears had a $104.5 million surplus in trade with Moldova, an increase of 30% from the same period in 2011.

The two countries trade in more than 500 items, of which 388 are Belarusian exports. Belarus’ exports to Moldova are tractors, buses, trucks, road-building machinery, household appliances, timber, fertilizers, medicines, clothing, furniture, and ceramics. Moldovan consumers are familiar with such brands as Savushkin Product, Santa Bremor, Keramin, Gefest, Atlant Milavitsa.

Belarus is a traditional consumer of Moldovan agricultural, winemaking and industrial products. Belarus buys Moldovan fresh fruit and vegetables, wines and cognacs, maize, sunflower oil, plaster and other products. In 2011 Belarus ranked first in consumption of Moldovan winemaking products and second in the import of Moldova’s horticultural produce.

According to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Moldova Vyacheslav Osipenko, Belarus-Moldova trade is expected to reach $500 million in a year or two.

Belarus-Moldova trade totaled $319.7 million in 2011, up 28.3% over 2010. Last year the Belarusian export to Moldova increased by 46.5% to $242 million. Moldovan supplies to Belarus fell 7.4% to $77.7 million.
