Turkish inflation eases in August

Inflation in Turkey eased in August, the latest figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute showed Monday.
The consumer price index rose 8.88 percent year-on-year in August, slower than the 9.07 percent increase recorded a month earlier. On a monthly basis, CPI rose 0.56 percent.
On an annual basis, the strongest increase was recorded in the group of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which rose 18.67 percent. Housing prices increased 11.84 percent.
Separately, the statistical office reported that the producer price index increased 4.56 percent year-on-year in August. This was much weaker than the 6.13 percent rise recorded in July. Month-on-month, PPI rose 0.26 percent.
