Kazakhstan extends ban on petroleum product exports until 2013

2012-08-20 16:19:17

The Kazakh government extended on Thursday the export of certain petroleum products for an additional six months, the finance ministry said.

The export ban applies to kerosene oil, light distillates, and other petroleum products.

Kazakhstan’s ministry of economic development has also asked members of the Eurasian Economic Commission of the tripartite customs union – the other partners in which are Russia and Belarus – to suspend exports of these products as well.

The ban does not apply to special gasoline and heating oil.

The hold on exporting petroleum products was originally imposed in February 2012 and was intended to be lifted in July 2012.

Kazakhstan’s gas production has actually increased in the first half of 2012, and posted a 12.6 percent increase in production rates.

The decree entered into force on July 1 but was not published by the government until Thursday.
