Belarus-Ukraine trade past $3.6bn in January-June

In January-June 2012 Belarus-Ukraine trade went up 41.6% on the year to $3.63 billion, representatives of the Trade and Economy Department of the Embassy of Belarus in Ukraine told BelTA.
In H1 2012 Belarus exported $2.652 billion worth of commodities to Ukraine (65% up) and imported $977.3 million worth of commodities (2.3% up on H1 2011).
Belarus continued increasing trade surplus, with the figure at $1.675 billion in January-June.
Ukraine is a strategic trade partner of Belarus. In 2011 Belarus-Ukraine trade reached a record high and exceeded $6 billion, with the trade surplus at $2.122 billion. The previous record of about $5 billion and the trade surplus of $663 million were reached in 2008.
Belarus’ major exports to Ukraine are agricultural machines, trucks, potash fertilizers, oil products, tires, and refrigerators. Major imports from Ukraine are metal products, ferrous metal products, electricity, oilcakes, extraction cakes, and sunflower oil.
