Refinancing rate in Tajikistan falls to 6.8% per annum for the first time

National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) has lowered the refinancing rate by 1.2 percentage point - to 6.8% per annum, CA-News was told in the press center of NBT on Monday.
"Another change was made in view of reducing inflationary pressures and external factors," said the Central Bank.
The refinancing rate is less than the level of 8% per annum for the first time in the past five years.
In late March, the NBT has lowered the refinancing rate by 1 percentage point. Thus the size of the rate got back to the period from July 2009 to October 2010 - 8% per annum.
The NBT hopes that the current rate cut will improve the effectiveness of monetary policy, and lower average interest rates on loans in the banking system.
Weighted-average rate on all loans in Tajikistan, as of May, is 23.68% per annum.
The refinancing rate is one of the instruments of monetary regulation, by which NBT affects the interbank market, as well as the interest rates on loans and deposits.
