Inflation in Kazakhstan may arise at a level below the lower boundary of the medium-term forecast corridor as a result of 2012, which is set at the level of 6-8%, Head of the National Bank Grigory Marchenko said, IA Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.
According to official data of the Statistics Agency, inflation stood at 0.3% in annual terms in June 2012 (in comparison with June 2011) - 4.9%. In January-June 2012, inflation rate was 2.7% (in January-June 2011 5.1%).
He noted that maintaining the current level of annual inflation, which is much lower since 1999, is influenced by a number of factors. In particular, he pointed out that food prices, which occupy 38% of the index of consumer prices in world markets, either decreased or remained stable. Decline in oil prices also had a positive impact on the consumer price index in Kazakhstan, the share of energy is 20-25%.
In addition, the head of the National Bank added that the depreciation of the euro against the tenge by about 10% indicates the absence of grounds for the rise in prices for imported goods. According to him, Kazakhstan imports about 33-35% of consumer goods, most of which are imported from Europe.
