Ukraine, China increased trade by 20% this year, to USD 3.5 b

The trade between Ukraine and China has grown by nearly 20% since the beginning of the year, to USD 3.5 billion.

Chairman of the State Customs Service of Ukraine Ihor Kaletnik announced this after a meeting with Vice Minister of the General Customs Administration of China Sun Yibiao, the press service of the Ukrainian State Customs Service reported.

"The trade between our two countries has increased by nearly 20% since the beginning of the year, to USD 3.5 billion," he said.

The chairman of the State Customs Service said that China was a strategic trade partner for Ukraine. He said that about half of all containers with goods that are imported to Ukraine come from China.

After the meeting, the sides agreed to cooperate in the facilitation of the customs clearance of goods that are transported between the two countries.

"Information from our Chinese colleagues will help quickly and efficiently handle cargo arriving from China to Ukraine. We have a very positive experience of information exchange with our Polish, Russian, Belarusian and Moldovan colleagues. After all, we and our colleagues obtain information on goods bound for our countries even before the vehicle with these goods actually crosses the border. This can significantly simplify and speed up customs clearance. And we hope for such good cooperation with our Chinese colleagues," Kaletnik said.

Sun, in turn, supported the proposal of Ukrainian colleagues. "I am confident that in the near future, businesses will feel the positive changes as a result of this meeting," he said.

In April 2011, Chinese President Hu Jintao said that trade between China and Ukraine should reach USD 10 billion in 2012.
