«AgroInvest» — News — Cargill sells two silos to Soufflet Agro Romania

Cargill sells two silos to Soufflet Agro Romania

2012-06-27 11:58:34

Soufflet AgroRomania, part of the Soufflet Group, will buy two “important silos located at Braila and Tandarei”, in eastern Romania, from Cargill.

The Braila silo, has a capacity of 25,000 tonnes, while the one at Tandarei reaches 23,000 tonnes. Both silos were built after the war and were then extended in the 1970s. The 29 employees which work on the two sites will join the Soufflet Group after agreement is closed.

“This acquisition benefits the Soufflet Group on several accounts. Firstly, it increases its storage capacity in Romania, where the company is rapidly expanding. The location of these two silos, at the heart of major malting barley-producing areas, is of strategic importance to the company. Secondly, Soufflet Agro Romania already has numerous customers there, and intends to build relationships with other local farmers,” said representatives of Soufflet AgroRomania. The silos will also secure the sourcing of the company’s Buzau malting plant – “the Group’s nerve centre inRomania” – which has an annual production capacity of 106,000 tonnes of malt.

“As for Cargill, the intention to sell, stems from a strategic review of the company’s operating needs and these two silos were surplus to the company’s storage requirements. Cargill remains strongly committed to Romania and Romanian agriculture and will continue to expand in the country,” according to the same source.

The Soufflet Group is an agricultural and industrial business specialising in the first conversion of cereals. It has forty two plants in France and across Europe and is an important player on the world malt market.
