The gross harvest of grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine in 2012 is projected at 43-44 million tons, or about 10-12 million tons (20-30%) less than last year.
The head of the department of agricultural meteorology of the Ukrainian Weather Center of the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry, Tetiana Adamenko, announced this at a press conference on Monday.
"According to our calculations, as a result of the current weather conditions in Ukraine, we are projecting the gross harvest of grain and leguminous crops at a level of 43-44 million tons, i.e. about 10-12 million tons less than last year," Adamenko said.
She said that this was the result of severe weather conditions that have recently occurred in the country, particularly drought.
At the same time, Adamenko noted that there was a more or less favorable situation with corn.
