Kazakhstan’s retail sales grows 11.9% to 1.6 trillion tenge in January-May 2012

Retail sales of non-food products increased by 9.6% compared to the corresponding period last year while sales of food products grew by 16%.
The volume of retail sales in Kazakhstan increased by 12% in January-May 2012 over the same period in 2011 and reached 1.5 trillion tenge, the Interfax news agency reported. Sales of goods at large stores totaled nearly 831 billion tenge. This is a 10% increase over the same period in 2011. The volume of trade in markets and by individual entrepreneurs increased by 14%. The retail business is dominated by non-food products.
