In January-April 2012 Belarus’ foreign trade surplus totaled $1.9 billion, $0.4 billion above this year’s target of $1.5 billion, Andrei Savinykh, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, told media on 7 June.

In comparison with January-April 2011 the trade balance has improved by $4.7 billion thanks to the surplus in merchandise trade. The growth rate of export (137.4%) exceeds that of import (101%).

Every month a stable increase in merchandise export is ensured. While in January Belarus exported $3.4 billion of merchandise, in April the figure reached $4.4 billion.

With the export growth above the import growth, the merchandise trade surplus stood at $1 billion.

As part of the efforts to diversify export Belarus shipped products to 12 new countries (Bahrain, Congo, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Kenya, Lao PDR, Liberia, Malta, Mozambique, Paraguay, the Seychelles, Togo), with the value of these shipments at $15.4 million.
