China to invest about $ 1 billion in economy of Tajikistan

State visit of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in China that ended on Thursday will bring about $ 1 billion investment in the Tajik economy, CA-News was told by the press service of the President on Friday.
"In accordance with the documents signed during the visit, the total volume of direct investments (in the form of grant and technical assistance, and concessional loans) of China in Tajikistan will amount to about $ 1 billion," said the press service.
During a fruitful visit, which lasted a week, Rahmon visited several cities in China, met with the leadership of the country, participated in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, also held talks with the presidents of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan, and also had 25 more meetings.
"10 new instruments of interstate, intergovernmental and interagency cooperation in such fields as energy, industry, road construction, geology, agriculture, banking, television and radio communications and other industries were signed only with direct participation in the presence of the President. A number of agreements between public and private companies from China and their counterparts from Tajikistan was reached," said the spokesman.
Cement production plant will be built in the near future in Shahritus district in the south of Tajikistan under one of these agreements. The project cost is estimated at $ 600 million.
Production capacity of this enterprise will be 3 million tons of cement per year. It is expected that this venture will employ more than five thousand people. The first stage of the plant with capacity of 1 million tons of cement per year will be launched next year.
