Uzbekistan and China sign $ 5.2 billion worth agreements

40 trade and economic, investment and financial agreements and contracts worth $ 5.2 billion were signed during the visit of Islam Karimov to China, reported the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

Signed documents suggest the implementation of new, large-scale projects in mining, transportation and processing of hydrocarbon raw materials, production of new types of chemical products in demand in the global market. It also presupposes implementation of a number of projects in high technology areas such as electronics and electrical engineering, information technology and telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and the production of modern building materials.

The parties reiterated their interest in enhancing the volume of bilateral trade. Arrangements were made to supply such strategic materials as cotton, uranium, natural gas, and nonferrous and rare metals to China in the long-term basis.

Parties noted that one of the key areas of mutual cooperation between China and Uzbekistan is to further develop transport and communication links. The parties expressed their full support to the speedy implementation of the project on construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which will provide the shortest transport route from China to the countries of Central and South Asia.

It was noted that there are broad prospects for increasing investment cooperation in the petroleum and petrochemical, chemical, mining, transport and logistics, engineering, and telecommunications.
