Total volume of Chinese investment in Uzbekistan amounts to more than $ 5 billion

The total volume of Chinese investment in the projects implemented in Uzbekistan in the framework of the agreements reached more than $ 5 billion, said the press release from the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Kyrgyzstan.

China implements a number of investment projects worth more than $ 5 billion in the chemical, oil and gas, energy and transport sectors and in the field of high technologies in Uzbekistan. The mutual trade turnover in 2011 exceeded $ 2.5 billion.

Uzbekistan implements a number of priority projects in the social sphere, in the petroleum industry, telecommunications, health care, the delivery of reclamation equipment and computer equipment thanks to the loan from the government of China.

There are over 400 enterprises with participation of Chinese investors, including those with one hundred percent of the Chinese capital in the country.

Such well-known Chinese corporations as "CITIC", "CNPC", "SGNPC", "China Machinery Corporation", "Huawei", "Shanghai Bell" are active in the markets of Uzbekistan.

The Embassy said that the visit of Islam Karimov to Beijing, of course, "will become a landmark event in the history of bilateral relations and mark a new qualitative stage of the Uzbek-Chinese cooperation, laying the foundation for a truly strategic and long-term partnership."

Karimov on the invitation of President Hu Jintao paid an official visit to Beijing from June 5.

During the meetings and talks with Chinese leaders he discussed issues of deepening mutually beneficial cooperation and current regional and international issues.

Following the visit it is expected to sign a joint declaration on strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China, and other bilateral documents aimed at further strengthening of Uzbek-Chinese cooperation in political, economic, trade, investment and other fields.

Karimov will participate in the next Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing on June 6-7.
