China drafting plans to address risks emanating from possible Greek exit

2012-06-05 17:09:17

China's government is drafting plans to address the worst-case scenario of Greece's exit from the euro area later this year, the China Daily reported Tuesday.

"A plan is being drafted to cushion the possible effect on the exchange rate, capital flow, as well as its influence on trade," Wang Haifeng, director of international economics at the Institute for International Economic Research, under the National Development and Reform Commission, told the newspaper.

Keeping a close eye on lending is crucial, Wang added. China's ministries of finance and commerce are involved in working on the plan.

Zhang Yansheng, secretary-general of the academic committee of the NDRC said the Chinese economy is strong enough to handle any such emergency in the Eurozone.

Wang Jun, a senior economist with the China Center for International Economic Exchanges said there is no need for China to worry about the Greek exit as the exposure is narrow.
