Russia refuses Ukrainian sugar

Agricultural Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said Wednesday that Russia, which is getting grain at low cost from Ukraine, has refused to lift import tariffs on Ukrainian sugar. The Minister was unable to explain why Russia adopted this stance. Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Klyuev said that he expects to complete negotiations on duty free Ukrainian sugar imports into Russia with Russian government soon. However in December Russian Deputy Economy Minister Mr. Muntian said that this issue must be considered in the framework of Russia’s custom union with Belarus and Kazakhstan.
