Belarus’ foreign trade surplus up to $1.4bn in Q1 2012

In Q1 2012 Belarus increased its foreign trade surplus to $1.37 billion, the National Statistics Committee told BelTA.
The balance of the foreign trade in commodities and services amounted to 10.7% of the GDP in Q1 2012.
In March 2012 the foreign trade surplus stood at $557.7 million.
In January-March 2012 the export of merchandise and services went up 40% in comparison with January-March 2011 to $12.93 billion, with import up by 3.4% to $11.57 billion. The overall volume of the foreign trade in commodities and services went up 20.9% in Q1 2012 to $24.5 billion.
In March 2012 the export of merchandise and services went up 26.2% in comparison with March 2011 to $4.86 billion, with import down by 6.7% to $4.31 billion. The overall volume of the foreign trade in commodities and services went up 8.3% in March 2012 to $9.17 billion.
In 2012 Belarus’ export of merchandise and services is expected to rise by 11.6-12.3%, with the balance of the foreign trade in goods and services at 2.3-2.7% of the GDP.
