Ukraine is interested in a dialogue with Japan at the highest political level, President Viktor Yanukovych said in the course of Ukrainian-Japanese negotiations in Tokyo, which were held under the chairmanship of the Head of Ukrainian State and the Prime Minister of Japan, Naoto Kan.

"I hope our meeting will give new impetus and will open a new path of global relations between our countries," he added, stressing that the Ukrainian side is interested in a systematic and regular dialogue with Japan, according to the presidential press service.

For his part, Kan, speaking about the prospects for partnership between the two countries, noted the significant potential of Ukraine in the agrarian sector. Therefore, Ukraine is a very important friendly state to Japan, he said.

Kan separately said that as a nation that survived nuclear bombing, Japan highly appreciates Ukraine's position on the voluntary renunciation of nuclear weapons.

Ukraine occupies an important geopolitical position between the European Union and Russia, the Prime Minister of Japan said, expressing a sincere wish that this country develop as a democratic state.
