Poroshenko: Ukraine, EU to discuss providing EUR 610mn macro-financial assistance soon

Ukraine is taking measures to resume in the near future sectoral cooperation with the European Union, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said Wednesday after a meeting with the Director of Neighbourhood Programme, Directorate General for Development and Cooperation of the European Commission, Marcus Cornaro, the ministry said in a statement.
"We have agreed that the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Brussels, which is scheduled for May 15, will not be empty-handed, but with concrete results of our cooperation that will ensure the reengagement with the European Union," he stressed.
The minister noted the sides agreed to revisit the issue of granting Ukraine macro-financial assistance amounting to EUR 610 million.
According to Poroshenko, this is the third over the last week fruitful meeting with the leaders of the European Commission, which indicates the effectiveness of bilateral dialogue.
The sides also focused on the important issues of sectoral cooperation between Ukraine and the EU. In particular, they discussed the cooperation in the fields of public finance, regional development, energy, energy efficiency.
A reminder that the Cabinet of Ministers had earlier approved a plan of priority measures for the integration of Ukraine into the EU in 2012, under which by end of July the concerned ministries have to finalize the plan of EU macro-financial assistance.
