Beginning next year, Ukraine may start producing 5% ethanol petrol, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boiko said on the Shuster LIVE television show on Friday.

"We are introducing a bill, I hope it will be adopted by the Government, that next year any petrol should contain 5% of ethanol, and in 2014 - 7%," Boiko underscored.

He said that adding ethanol will allow Ukraine to reduce the purchases of oil and support national agricultural producers.

Boiko also noted that when drafting the bill the experience of European countries and suggestions of the oil market participants were taken into account.

"This is a European experience, it will enable us to reduce the purchase of oil, on the other hand - to support our farmers. We worked out the law with all market participants and I believe that it will certainly be positive," the minister underscored.
