Ukraine. Agricultural profits 52.3% up - Statistics Service

The profit of agricultural enterprises (except small ones) from main activities in 2011 amounted to 19.8 billion UAH against 13 billion UAH in 2010 (increase by 52.3%), the State Statistics Service reported.

"The level of profitability as a whole was 25.8% against 20.7% in the previous year," the Service said.

Income from agricultural production and services in crop growing and cattle breeding was received by 79% of enterprises, when 21% suffered losses.

In crop production, company profit was 17 billion UAH, with efficiency of 31.8%.

The production of milk and eggs remained profitable. Compared with 2010, revenues from eggs increased significantly, from 18.6% to 37%, milk from 17.9% to 18.4%. However, the profitability of poultry farming fell from minus 4.4% in 2010 to minus 13.4% in 2011.

In 2011, losses from meat cattle farming significantly decreased to minus 25.1% against minus 35.9% in 2010, from meat pig farming to minus 3.9% against minus 7.8%, wool production to minus 71.7% against 82.2%. At the same time, it became even more unprofitable to grow sheep and goats for meat (minus 41.1% against minus 29.5%).

In general, livestock enterprises received profit of UAH 2,484.1 million, and the overall efficiency was 12.3% (in 2010 UAH 1,374.6 million and 7.8%, respectively).

In order to support agricultural production in 2011, revenues of UAH 597.7 million from direct budget subsidies and UAH 3,389.9 million from value added tax actually came to the accounts of agricultural enterprises.
