Economic Development Ministry names reasons for slower inflation

The keeping of inflation in December and in general in 2010 was influenced by the increase in production volumes in food industry, the decline in consumer crediting and the relative exchange rate stability, the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine reported.
The office noted that in December compared with November, prices rose by 0.8%, which is the lowest level in recent years (in December 2009 - 0.9%, in December 2008 - 2.1%, the average indicator of December in 2002-2009 - 1.5%).
"The dynamics of prices for industrial goods remained low due to continuing rising trend in household savings and seasonal discounts," the Ministry believes.
According to the State Statistics Service, in 2010, inflation in Ukraine made 9.1%. At the same time, in December, consumer prices rose by only 0.8%.
Among the negative factors of influence on pricing in the consumer market in 2010 there were those pertaining to foreign trade: growth in the world oil prices and the rising cost of agricultural products on world markets (grain, sugar), which also caused a rise in prices for agricultural products in the domestic market.
