The Speaker of the Senate of Kazakhstan Kairat Mami has met the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine Vladimir Litvin.

"The trade volume between our countries more than doubled in 2011 to reach $4.4 billion," said Mami whose words were quoted in a statement of the Senate press office.

Mami has also met the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenes (parliament) of Kyrgyzstan Asylbek Zheenbekov.

During the meeting Kairat Mami noted the importance of further strengthening the legal framework for mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, which is nearing $1 billion in value, the Senate statement said.

In his turn, Asylbek Zheenbekov commended the personal role of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in the settlement of the internal political crisis in Kyrgyzstan.
