EU invests USD 39 billion in Ukrainian economy in 2011

Foreign direct investment in the Ukrainian economy from the EU countries in 2011 amounted to USD 39.4 billion, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine has reported.

"The volume of direct investment in the Ukrainian economy from the EU countries as of December 31, 2011 amounted to 39.4 billion dollars, which was 79.8% of the total volume of investment in Ukraine. As of January 1, 2011, the figure was 35.4 billion dollars, or 78.9% of the total volume of investment in Ukraine," reads the statement.

The main countries accounting for almost 84% of the total volume of investment from the EU were Cyprus - USD 12.646 billion (32.1% of the total volume of investment from the EU countries), Germany - USD 7.386 billion (18.7%), the Netherlands - USD 4.823 billion (12.2%), Austria - USD 3.423 billion (8.7%), Britain - USD 2.508 billion (6.4%) and France - USD 2.231 billion (5.7%).

Significant amounts of direct investment from the EU countries were focused on industrial enterprises (33.4%). Financial institutions accumulated 33.1% of direct investment, the organizations engaged in real estate operations, leasing, engineering and the provision of services to entrepreneurs - 11% and enterprises engaged in trade, the repair of motor vehicles, household goods and articles of personal use - 9.3%.

The volume of investment from Ukraine in the economy of the EU countries in 2011 amounted to USD 6.518 billion (or 94.5% of the total volume of investment from Ukraine).
