Kazakhstan's GDP to grow by 6.5 percent in 2012: EBRD

2012-03-13 18:13:09

Kazakhstan is likely to see its gross domestic product (GDP) grow by 6.5 percent this year, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said here Tuesday.

"Our latest forecast for Kazakhstan's GDP growth is 6.5 percent, but this is subject to the condition that the Eurozone crisis will not worsen," said Nina Omes, head of EBRD's Central Asia Department, when presenting an EBRD report on Central Asian economies.

"Kazakhstan is relatively isolated from Europe, which is an advantage for the country. The only thing that can make a strong negative impact on Kazakhstan is a sharp decline in oil prices," Omes said.

Meanwhile, the EBRD report forecasts "a slowdown in GDP growth in all countries of the region, including Russia."
