In January 2012 export of Belarusian products to Ukraine increased 2.4 times up to $305.8 million over January 2011, BelTA learnt from the trade and economic group of the Embassy of Belarus in Kiev.

On the whole, in January 2012 trade between Belarus and Ukraine was up 60% as against January a year earlier and made up $413.4 million. At the same time import made up 83% of the deliveries in January last year or $107.6 million. Belarus had a surplus of $198.2 million in trade with Ukraine in January 2012.

Ukraine is one of the strategic trade partners of Belarus in terms of trade and export. In turn, Belarus is one of the five major foreign trade partners of Ukraine.

Belarus and Ukraine have recently managed to address the 2008 crisis consequences and to build up the bilateral trade. In 2011 the trade exceeded $6.2 billion with Belarus having a surplus of more than $2 billion.

According to the Governments of the two countries, mutual trade between Belarus and Ukraine can be increased 1.5-2 times in the near future due to joint projects in different areas including energy sector and development of agro-industrial cooperation.
