Belarus. Semashko: GDP might reach full-year growth forecast in Q1

There is every chance for Belarus to see GDP grow to the annual forecast of 5-5.5% in Q1 2012, First Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko said at the meeting of the national council on labor and social issues on 24 February.
The country’s GDP grew 3.5% in January 2012. Industrial production went up by 6.6% as against the annual forecast of 6-7%. The growth rate forecast was met in agriculture as well. “There is hope we will meet the preset GDP growth rate in the first quarter,” Vladimir Semashko said.
He confessed that at first the government proposed to revise down GDP growth for 2012. “But we have decided on 5-5.5%,” the official said. He noted that production growth would enable the wages to go up.
