Russia's membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO) will have a positive impact on the country's agricultural sector, Agriculture Minister Yelena Skrynnik said.

"The WTO will give extra impetus to domestic agricultural exports growth, encouraging new strategic investors to come to the sector," she said at a session in Barnaul on Friday.

"Our membership in the WTO will not effect the course of planned measures as part of the state program or the approach to tackling tasks set in the Food Security Doctrine," the minister said.

The Russian government is taking a number of measures intended to adapt the country's agricultural sector to the WTO's conditions, Skrynnik said.

"It is possible to say today that for our agricultural sector, these are some of the best terms on which countries have ever joined this organization," she said.

Russia will fully meet its domestic needs for pork production within the next two years, and it will meet all of its domestic needs for milk and beef meat production before 2020, Skrynnik said.
