GDP growth in January about 2% in annual terms - NBU

GDP growth in Ukraine in January amounted to about 2% in annual terms, according to the National Bank's assessment of the economic situation in Ukraine.
The production index of basic industries in January 2012 was 3.1%.
"A strong domestic consumer demand was the main factor of economic growth. The largest contribution to the index growth was provided by retail trade (1.3 pp), whose turnover growth in January was 13.8% in annual terms. According to the department, the main factor of the positive dynamics in the industry was the growth in real wages of the population at high rates (11% in annual terms in December 2011 and 8.7% overall in 2011)," the National Bank said.
According to the State Statistics Service, GDP growth in Ukraine in 2011 was 5.2%.
