2011-01-05 17:48:18

Preliminary data indicated that in 2010 Russia's inflation rate was 8.7 percent, announced the federal statistic service (Rosstat) Wednesday.

In 2009, the figure stood at 8.8 percent.

Latest statistics also showed that in Dec. 2010, consumer prices edged up 0.2 percent on a monthly basis. Food prices surged 2 percent as compared with those of November, 2010, or 12.8 percent year on year.

Prices for non-food items slightly increased by 0.5 percent as compared with those of November, or 5 percent as compared with those of Dec., 2009.

Russian authorities had earlier predicted that the 2010 inflation would not exceed 7.5 percent. However, they later raised the rate to 7-8 percent after the unprecedented summer drought which affected a third of Russian crops.

Final data on the 2010 inflation will be unveiled by Rosstat later this month.
