Ukraine, Moldova boost turnover

The trade turnover between Ukraine and Moldova in 2011 rose 30% to $1 billion. Chairman of the State Customs Service of Ukraine Ihor Kaletnyk said this during his meeting with Director General of Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova Tudor Balitsky, according to the liaison department of the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
"In mutual trade, the countries virtually reached the pre-crisis level (in 2008 -1.17 billion U.S. dollars)," Kaletnyk said.
According to him, 260 thousand trucks, 2 million cars, 80 thousand buses and more than 10 million citizens were let across the Ukrainian-Moldovan border in 2011.
"For the customs it is important that border crossing would be as fast as possible and would not hinder foreign trade growth," the State Customs Service chairman said.
There are 54 crossing points at the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border.
