Serbia's GDP growth at 1.9 percent in 2011

According to a preliminary estimate by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (RZS), the real interannual growth of the Serbian GDP in the final quarter of 2011, in last year's prices, was 0.8 percent, so, having that in mind, the real growth of GDP in 2011 was 1.9 percent, the National Bank of Serbia has released.

The December 2011 industrial output, according to deseasoned data, recorded a drop of 0.5 percent, while it was only 0.1 percent higher compared to the same month previous year.

Viewed per sector, mining recorded a 19 percent interannual growth in December, electricity, gas, steam and heating supply sector recorded a 14.2 percent growth, while the processing industry dropped by 4.8 percent.

According to deseasoned data, the processing industry grew by 0.2 percent in December. The greatest contribution to that figure came from the pharmaceutical, coke and oil derivative industries.

On the other hand, the largest negative contribution to industry overall came from the food, chemical and basic metal industries.

Retail dropped by 16.5 percent between December 2011 and 2010.

According to RZS deseasoned data, export grew by 1.4 percent in December, while import went up by 5.6. Import growth resulted from increased demand in fuel and capital goods. Export of goods in 2011, when expressed in euros, went up by 14.1 percent, while import was raised by 14.5.
