The Polish economy expanded faster than expected in 2011, marking the strongest growth in three years, preliminary estimate from the Central Statistical Office showed Friday.

The gross domestic product expanded 4.3 percent last year, faster than the revised 3.9 percent growth in 2010 and 1.6 percent rise in 2009. Economists were looking for a 4.2 percent growth.

Gross value added in national economy increased 4 percent following 3.9 percent rise in the previous year. Gross value added in industry was 6.3 percent higher than in 2010.

Private consumption was 3.1 percent higher than in 2010, while total consumption expenditure increased 2.1 percent.
