Astarta to finish construction of EUR 20 million worth of biogas complex by September

The agricultural holding Astarta will finish the construction of a biogas production complex worth 20 million euros before September 2012, Viktor Ivanchuk, Astarta Kyiv director general, said during the signing of a long-term investment loan agreement.
"The construction of a complex for the production of biogas began at the Hlobyne sugar factory last year. This biogas will solve the problem of natural gas supply. The gas is produced for our company and companies around it. We hope that this pilot project will be successful, and we will be able to replicate this project at other sugar mills and replace natural gas by 60%," Ivanchuk said.
According to him, the estimated biogas production project cost is about 15-20 million euros, and the construction will be completed by September 2012.
Astarta Kyiv is a vertically integrated agroindustrial holding company, which unites five regional branches located in Poltava, Vinnytsia and Khmelnytsky regions.
The main activity of the holding is the production of sugar and related products (molasses and dried beet pulp pellets), grains and oilseeds, as well as meat and milk.
