Romania plans to take 6 billion Euros from EU funds

2012-01-10 11:55:25

Romanian Prime Minister (PM) Emil Boc said today (Mon) that the government planned to get six billion Euros from European funds this year.

It also plans to allot nine billion Euros (38.1 billion RON) for investments and creating new jobs.

Boc said the cohesion funds and the agriculture funds were going to be targeted this year.

PM Boc said: "We want to reallocate European funds in order to insulate blocks of flats in Romania."

He added the government would fight tax evasion this year, as a priority.

The country, which joined the EU in 2007, has set up a Ministry for European Affairs this autumn, in order to boost the absorption of EU funds.

Romania has at its disposal, in the period 2007 to 2013, 19.2 billion Euros from the European Fund for Development, the European Fund for Cohesion and the Social Fund.
