NBU: Inflation of 6% expected in Ukraine in 2013

2012-01-09 10:44:27

Consumer inflation in Ukraine in 2013 is expected to fall to about 6% if the situation in global economy stabilizes, according to a macroeconomic review of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

"The forecasting of Ukraine's economic development of Ukraine in 2012 is complicated due to the current tense situation in Europe, uncertainty about the price of imported gas and the related budget structure," reads the document.

If the current monetary policy is preserved and if there are no significant external shocks, then, according to the NBU, consumer inflation in 2012 will be about 7%, and economic growth - 3-4%.

"In 2013, if the world economy gets stabilized, consumer inflation is expected to shrink to about 6% and the pace of economic growth is to reach the potential level of 4-5%," according to the review.

As reported, in 2011, Ukraine saw a record low level of inflation - 4.6%. The law on Ukraine's state budget for 2012 envisages inflation at 7.9%.
