Belarus expected to increase export of goods and service by $5bn in 2012

2011-12-27 17:32:25

In 2012 Belarus is expected to increase the export of goods and services by more than $ 5 billion, Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said at a meeting of the Council of Ministers to discuss the preliminary results of socio-economic development of the country in 2011 and measures to reach the projections in 2012.

“Next year exports of goods and services should increase by more than $5 billion as against this year,” said the head of government.

Evaluating this year’s results, Mikhail Myasnikovich said that most of the ministries and departments have performed considerably worse than expected. “In 2011 we underperformed in those areas which are assigned a crucial role in the 2012 forecast,” he said. The country failed to reach the targets regarding reduction of material consumption, labor productivity growth, and foreign direct investment growth.

The head of government has instructed the Economy Ministry, other ministries concerned and the Energy Efficiency Department to examine the objective and subjective reasons for non-fulfillment of the targets in 2011 so that the country could reach them next year. Addressing the members of the government, Mikhail Myasnikovich demanded to speak not only about the numbers but about the ways to reach the targets next year.
