American investors will increase investments in Romania by as much as 50 per cent in the next five years, the US Ambassador to Bucharest, Mark Gitenstein, said today (Weds), at the launch of the American Chamber of Commerce report in Bucharest.

Mark Gitenstein said the data came from a poll, questioning the general managers currently working in Romania.

Gitenstein said: "In the next five years, the invested capital will increase by 50 per cent, according to responses from 57 per cent of the investors.

"The American investors who are already here will invest more."

The AmCham report is based on polls on 150 company leaders regarding the Romanian business environment.

Since 2008, American companies have announced 1.2 billion dollars in planned future investment in Romania. Over 100 American companies here employ over 15,000 Romanians. U.S. direct investment in Romania has been nearly 1 billion dollars since 1990, according to official Romanian statistics.
